Message from the Chancellor

'Education and knowledge in science and technology are the foremost foundation for successful and sustainable social and economic development of a nation.' This has been the philosophy of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) for the many years.
Since its establishment in 1960, KMITL has been devoted to provide higher education and research to advance knowledges in science, engineering, technology and other areas of scholarship that will best serve for sustainable development of the nation. Students will be educated with both theoretical knowledges and practical skills so that they would be well-equipped and ready to work in the real world. This has been well recognized by the community, and is like a trademark of KMITL's students for almost five decades. In 2005 and 2006, KMITL were awarded as the nation's best university in information and communication technologies for two consecutive years. KMITL is now one of the best technological universities in Thailand and in the South-East Asia.
Since I have been appointed as the chancellor in April 2005, there have been many positive and exciting changes in KMITL. An international college has been established to collaborate with overseas institutions to provide students in Thailand and in the South-East Asia with international education programs. Two new research centers of excellence, specifically on nanotechnology and data storage technology, have been founded with collaboration from National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The mission of the centers is to provide higher education and advance research and knowledge in their related technical areas. The research center on data storage technology also aims to support and strengthen the hard disk drives industry in Thailand. The new research centers, together with the existing well-established Research Center of Communications and Information Technology (ReCCIT), will be the spearheads for advanced education and research in the coming years. I am confident that these changes have positioned the institute well to build on its long record of success and I look forward to watching the future unfold in the years to come as the institute strives to achieve new heights of success and international recognition.
Under my guidance, KMITL is accentuated in bringing His Majesty the King's philosophy of 'sufficiency economy' into our education and learning process. In addition to rigorous technical knowledge, students will be emphasized with morality and virtuousness under the philosophy of 'morality ahead of knowledge'. These are very important basis for the nation to contend with rapid changes and impacts of world's globalization.
Finally, I would like to thank all council members for their valuable support, commitment and dedication, the management and staff for their cooperation and diligence, the academic staff and students for their contributions to the enduring success and welfare of our institute.
H.E.Gen.
